“Kronobarnsmodellen”
Kronoberg’s Common Approach and Working Model to Ensure Every Child’s Wellbeing
In response to the challenges faced both locally and globally, Kronoberg has taken decisive action. Building on the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, Kronoberg has developed “Kronobarnsmodellen” – an approach that seeks to provide every child in the region with equal and fair opportunities for a good upbringing.
Children, even those not in need of special support, interact with various parts of society daily. Through a focus on promotive and preventative measures, Kronobarnsmodellen is both an approach and working model, that strives to make those interactions as safe and supportive as possible. It has been carefully designed by reviewing different laws, regulations, and political initiatives, ensuring it serves the best interests of children. It establishes a common framework for children, their parents or guardians, professionals, and other significant individuals in the child’s life by promoting a unified approach, language, and set of materials.
The integrated steps of Kronobarnsmodellen
Kronobarnsmodellen aims at creating a sustainable, safe and secure society by working across various levels. First, all organisations should work in a promotive and preventive manner so that as many children as possible have their needs met without requiring additional support from society. Second, if a concerning situation connected to a child is identified, it should be addressed as early as possible. Third, all relevant parties to the child should collaborate well when the situation calls for it.
The model’s inclusive approach engages a broad spectrum of organisations, including healthcare, schools, social services, and both public and private sectors, as well as national and local civic initiatives. By fostering a shared language and unified practices, Kronobarnsmodellen strengthens collaboration among professionals, making it easier to meet each child’s unique needs. This alignment ensures resources are used efficiently and are focused on the child’s well-being, rather than the specific functions of various authorities.
The underlying principle is clear: “We focus on the child’s needs and treat each child as an individual person, who is an expert on their own wellbeing”.
Kronobarnsmodellen is promoted by the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR) as a leading example of how to work with the shift to person-centred and integrated care.
“We do this for our children – and all of our future.”
