Biogas – contributing to the green transition
18 March, Carolina Gunnarsson, Region Kalmar County presented, at ERRIN’s webinar on Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Directive. She described how the region has through strategic actions pushed the deployment of biogas in the region. Carolina also pointed out some aspect that she sees as crucial to take into account, in order for the reviewed document to support the green transition:
- Take into consideration regional differences such as geographical preconditions and strategic investments already made
- Involve regions in planning and implementation
- Maintain technology neutrality
- Use lifecycle analysis when measuring CO2 emissions, meaning “well to wheel” and not “tail to pipe”
- Recognise that biogas is renewable and should therefore be distinguished from fossil gases
- Investments should not only focus on the TEN-T core network
