Jönköping municipality wins the EU Access City Award!
Congratulations to Jönköping municipality the winner of EU Access City Awards 2021!
The Access City Award is an annual EU contest aimed to recognize and support the efforts made of a city or municipality to be more accessible to people with disabilities and older people. There were 50 participants where Jönköping, in the finals, stood against Florence in Italy, Gdynia and Poznan in Poland, Komotini in Greece and Bremerhaven in Germany.
The Commission’s justification as to why the prize was awarded to Jönköping municipality was based on the work that has been done in the municipality regarding norm criticism in the schools, the making of available green areas in the city and the close cooperation between the municipality and local disability organizations. The award included a total amount of 150 000 EUR which will be assigned to projects that are working with accessibility. The idea is that the money will be used to further develop the work with accessibility in various areas of activity in the city.
